Why All Steps of Home Renovation Projects Should Be Documented

While it’s great that your home remodeling project is finally underway, it can also be easy to forget to take a few pictures of the progress. Each step of the remodeling process must be documented so that you’re well-prepared for any problem that comes during and after it’s completed. Professional home remodeling contractors would often help you do this by taking before-and-after progress photos, but you can also document it yourself if you want to be more involved with the project.

Here are other reasons why you should document your remodeling project:

You’ll Provide More Proof to Potential Buyers

You’ll need to provide definitive proof of your remodeling progress to potential buyers if you’re planning to sell your property soon. That usually means collecting official receipts of the substantial upgrades after providing a reference list of what was done to your home, when it was done and who did it. This also helps you justify the asking price of your home. Showing the before-and-after photos makes a good impact as well!

You Can Keep Track of What’s Installed

Documenting all the structural changes made during the remodeling process is a good way to keep track of what’s behind the walls and beneath the floors. This is especially the case for certain placements, such as the electrical system and plumbing, as it can help you plan the next remodel without damaging them!

You’ll Know Who Did Your Remodel

Knowing who you hired for your remodel is important as well as keeping records of what was done during the remodeling process. Keeping records can be useful later on in case a component fails prematurely or didn’t meet the agreed-upon standards. For instance, if you find that there’s a problem with some of the wiring in your electrical system, you’ll know which company to talk to about fixing it.
