Moving Out Before a Whole-Home Remodel? Do These Four Things

Want to move out before a whole home remodel? Do the following steps listed by Design Build Remodeling Group of Maryland to ensure a smooth move-out before the renovations begin.

1. Prepare Your Home

Prepare your home before the contractors arrive and your leaving schedule. Remove any personal belongings and furniture from the house. Consider removing anything that can pose a hazard during the renovation. If you have to leave heavy furniture pieces, cover them with tarp to protect them from debris. Also, you can use temporary wall coverings to protect your walls from damage.

2. Take Inventory

Account for all your belongings before leaving your home. Make a list of your items to ensure nothing gets lost or stolen when you leave them at home. If you don’t want to bring them with you and leave them in your house during the renovation, you can use a rental storage space before moving to your temporary lodging.

Pack and label your belongings to ensure nothing gets mixed up. Wrap vases, kitchenware and other fragile items with bubble wrap, old clothes and towels and other void fillers before storing them in boxes for transport on vehicles or trucks.

3. Plan Your Stay

Plan your stay around your available budget and the projected length of the project. You can plan your whole-home renovation around when the family takes a month-long leave from work. Alternatively, a short-term stay nearby may suffice for projects that only take a few days.

4. Hire Professional Movers

Professional movers might be necessary if you have plenty of belongings or must deliver heavy furniture to families and friends who want them. Relocation services are an additional cost to your project, so include them in your project’s budget if you have to use them.
