Old-School Home Design Trends That Are Returning in 2020

Like fashion trends, home design trends tend to repeat themselves. In fact, many of the classic ones are trying to make a comeback at the turn of the new decade. Here are some old-school ideas you should consider reviving when you remodel your house or add a new room.

Conversation Pits

Five decades ago, a conversation pit was a symbol of opulence. This no longer has to be the case. Any honest home remodeling contractors will attest that this architectural gem is a perfect solution to entertaining guests in style in an open floor plan. It is a natural space definer and center of attraction.

Having a traditional conversation pit has a caveat, of course. It normally has built-in seating (in a depressed area of the floor) so it might restrict redecoration.

Bamboo, Rattan and Wicker Features

These wooden materials allude to the Tiki culture of the 1960s. The use of bamboo, rattan and wicker furnishings will not necessarily turn your house into a huge faux Polynesian bar. In moderation, the presence of such details can create a subtle ambience of a tropical island.

1950s Appliances

Replicas of these retro machines equipped with twenty-first century technology are a nod to the 1950s without sacrificing modern conveniences. Pursuing the look of vintage appliances might require customization, but it is worth the trouble if you have the right concept.

Classic Wallpaper

Professionals will say that 1970s wallpaper designs can lend distinct character to the space. Decorating one prominent side of the room with psychedelic art makes an eye-catching statement wall.
