Home Remodeling: How to Reduce Stress During Your Next Project

In a perfect world, home remodeling projects go as planned to the last detail. In the real one, though, renovations are not immune to curve balls. Fortunately, many causes of unnecessary stress occur so often professionals have already learned how to reduce the chances of them happening.

Today, Design Build Remodeling Group talks about common basement, bathroom and kitchen remodeling pain points, and their solutions:

Improper Custom Orders

The thing with made-to-order items is that they need to be precisely created according to project specifications. Otherwise, you can’t install them as is without altering the plan based on their design flaws.

The silver lining, though, is that you can ask for discounts from the guilty party because it will inconvenience you one way or another.

Old Blueprint Blunders

Using the wrong blueprint is one of the dangers of working with design and construction teams from different companies. In addition to avoiding dated plans, you should also consider only design-build remodeling and new addition contractors for the job. This way, only one party will handle everything, and everyone is on the same page from start to finish.

Unforeseen Structural Challenges

No remodeler can see into the future and tell you exactly the surprises that might appear along the way. But, you can prepare for unforeseen circumstances. Create a contingency budget, and put a clearly defined change order provision in the contract to execute plan modifications seamlessly.

Unreasonable Upfront Payment Demands

The most reputable home remodeling contractors will only ask up front is either 10% of the job or $1,000 (whichever is less). This is just earnest money; proof that you’re a serious customer. If your prospective remodeler demands more, take your business elsewhere.

Further, the release of funds must be staggered throughout the project. This should give the other party the motivation to do faultless work and provide you protection against unsatisfactory results.
