Important Considerations When Adding a Sunroom

When it comes to adding space to your home, a room addition isn’t the only way to do so. One of the most popular alternatives to that method is a sunroom. There are some factors you should consider before going through with your sunroom plans.

Prefab or Custom-Built

When it comes to your sunrooms, there are two options for you to choose from: prefabricated sunrooms or custom-built. As the name states, custom-built sunrooms are built by a general contractor, designed and built according to your specifications. Custom-built sunrooms are built with traditional stud-and-truss framing and shingle roofs, and with glass walls from patio doors or full-length windows.

Prefabricated sunrooms, meanwhile, come with a framework made from pieces of steel, aluminum or fiberglass, and are assembled in a puzzle-like manner. They’re designed and fabricated off-site before being shipped to your home in pieces and can be assembled by yourself. However, that doesn’t mean assembling a prefab sunroom is an easy DIY project, and it is often recommended that a contractor be hired to assemble it instead.

Cost

Depending on how large the sunroom is, its cost will vary. The sunroom kit will also play a factor into its price with wooden kit sunrooms being the less costly option while aluminum and glass kits have a significant price tag attached to it. Of course, if you want your sunroom to be used during all four seasons, you’ll also have to pay extra for the finished walls with wiring and heating services. To make an informed decision on what to do next, you can always turn to home remodeling contractors Design Build Remodeling Group of Maryland for the best advice.

Components

Sunroom builders have been stepping up their game in recent times. For instance, in the past, prefab sunrooms weren’t even wired for electricity. Nowadays, this is an option that comes with most sunroom packages. HVAC systems can now also be installed in your sunroom even though they’re not actually required. Consider these components carefully as they can contribute to your electric bills.
