Prefab or Custom-Built

When it comes to your sunrooms, there are two options for you to choose from: prefabricated sunrooms or custom-built. As the name states, custom-built sunrooms are built by a general contractor, designed and built according to your specifications. Custom-built sunrooms are built with traditional stud-and-truss framing and shingle roofs, and with glass walls from patio doors or full-length windows.

Prefabricated sunrooms, meanwhile, come with a framework made from pieces of steel, aluminum or fiberglass, and are assembled in a puzzle-like manner. They’re designed and fabricated off-site before being shipped to your home in pieces and can be assembled by yourself. However, that doesn’t mean assembling a prefab sunroom is an easy DIY project, and it is often recommended that a contractor be hired to assemble it instead.

Cost

Depending on how large the sunroom is, its cost will vary. The sunroom kit will also play a factor into its price with wooden kit sunrooms being the less costly option while aluminum and glass kits have a significant price tag attached to it. Of course, if you want your sunroom to be used during all four seasons, you’ll also have to pay extra for the finished walls with wiring and heating services.
