4 Great One-Room Home Additions to Try

Extending your living space is a great way to add some utility and function to your home. Most new addition contractors like us recommend one-room home additions. Not only are they simple to do, but they also add value and curb appeal to your home.

In this post, Design Build Remodeling Group shares four one-room additions to try for your next remodeling project.

1.    A Connected Garden Room

While most garden rooms are built separate from the main house, there’s no rule against building them connected to the rest of your home. This turns this functional space from a retreat to an extended living space, especially if it’s connected to the living room.

The right way to connect your existing space to a garden room is through a wide hallway to physically and visually connect the two spaces. For the latter, you can achieve this by using the same flooring, wall and interior elements as with the living space.

2.    Add a Pool House

Most homes with pools usually have a large and unused empty space between the pool and the house. This is a perfect spot for a pool house – a transitory space between the pool deck and your home. This is less complicated than you think and is just a simple room extension.

3.    Kitchen Sunroom

Sunrooms solve one of the main problems with kitchens: lack of daylighting. For your next kitchen remodeling project, we recommend you turn the kitchen into a sunroom. This involves building out the space towards the backyard so that you can get as much sunlight and ventilation as possible.

4.    Bedroom Office Space

While most office spaces are usually set up as just a desk area for the room, it’s not as effective as allocating a separate space for it. You don’t necessarily have to extend your bedroom to do this. Rather, you need to divide the room. This is easy to do as all that’s necessary is a wall that separates the “main” bedroom area from the actual office space.
