The Elements of a Master Suite

Master suites transform a simple bed or living room into a personal oasis and retreat. Despite the drop in size of new homes, the master area is still a coveted space and often becomes the centerpiece of the entire property.

Design Build Remodeling Group of Maryland, one of the top home remodeling contractors in Eldersburg, shares the main design elements of a master suite upgrade.

The Sitting Area

What separates the master suite from a regular bedroom is that it has ample space for a sitting area. This can take the form of a subtle window seat on a bay or bow window, or a separate area where you can put chairs and a small table.

Walk-in Closets

Spacious walk-in closets are a design staple for master suites, and they aren’t just for storing clothes and shoes. They double as dressing areas, where you can prepare for your day privately. Walk-in closets also have small spaces, where you can sit as well as add an additional dresser to store your jewelry and sundry accessories.

Master Bathroom

Ask any new addition contractors, and they will always recommend a master bathroom to go with your master suite upgrade. We agree as it helps establish that full-suite feeling you get when you check in a hotel. As a general rule, your bath must always complement the bathroom so they need to be spacious, too. The shift in trend from bathtubs to showers makes this easy to achieve as well as the usual toilet alcoves and water closets.

Extended Space

As you’re building up your room, it’s also a good idea to enhance the space outside the room to establish that feeling of extended space that master suites have. You can do this by installing a sliding glass or French door leading directly from the main bedroom to the garden, deck or balcony area.

At Design Build Remodeling Group of Maryland, we specialize in the design and construction of major, large-scale home remodeling projects. We’ll help you turn your bedroom into a master suite. We also offer kitchen remodeling services.
